Back in 1906 our original patent was for a mechanism to open the lid of a receptacle with a treadle. This development gave birth to today's oily waste can, specifically designed to safely collect solvent soaked cleaning rags and reduce fires that could occur as a result of spontaneous combustion. As early as 1911, we introduced the first safety can, with many of the same characteristics that were later mandated by the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) in the early 1970's. Throughout the coming decades, we continued to expand our line of safety equipment, most of which was designed with the same premise as OSHA - to reduce and prevent work related injuries to America's workforce. Our products took things one step further beyond fire safety - to worker productivity. Early 1980's "STUD" system introduced to help identify and control risks by looking at the Storage, Transfer, Use and Disposal of hazardous materials. By the nineties and to this day, "STUD-Evaluation Surveys" are recognized as a vital part of environmental and safety programs in businesses worldwide. Early to mid 2000's New product development efforts resulted in more innovative safety solutions than ever before. Justrite's industry respected, 2002 catalog featured new brands including Gator® spill control products, Smokers Cease-Fire® smoking receptacles, Centura™ and ChemCor® laboratory cabinets, UNO™ safety cans, and Sure-Grip® safety cabinets.
